Moi 1st Day Internship @ CAAS

25 08 2008

Today is 14th May 2007.
This morning I dragged myself to wake up @ 6.40am. Being the 1st day of my Professional Attachment (PA) @ CAAS, a company & working environment which I longed wanted to work in….I have much anticipation, expectation and eagerness to looking forward this day. After much grooming, I quickly put on my best attire & happily leave the house to my most desirable workplace → CAAS @ Changi Airport. After half an hour of bus journey & enduring the mild morning traffic jam along TPE, I finally reached T1 @ 8.30am sharp. Quickly, I meet up with the rest of my friends & off we went to the office where we were pre-informed to proceed to. In the office, we waited around 15mins before someone actually came to attend to all the interns (WTF, told us to come @ 8.30am then make us wait so long). Soon, we were then brought to a meeting room. @ there, we were simply briefed about some of the do’s & don’ts of an interns, some rules & regulations of the organization, sharing of some lifetime experiences & knowledge etc.

@ around 10.15am, our supervisor then finally come to fetch us “Home”. I was attached to the Airport Management (T1 Team) Dept. Together with me was a fellow NTU mate from Vietnam & another fellow (still unknown is male/female cos’ will come nxt week…but from the name can know that is another foreigner from Vietnam, Thai etc….). Soon then, we were briefed about our job scopes & the structure of our dept+some of the upcoming projects our dept are doing, we were then been brought to an open cubical and were given some company information/booklets/magazines/materials to read & kill time, I supposed, haha….In the middle, of cos’ we were being introduced to our colleagues & our superiors too. Basically, the whole morning we practically did nothing. As for most of the time, I spent on chit chatting with my Vietnamese partner about Vietnam since I have interest in exploring that country in future…Haha…Besides pretending to read through all those boring company information & chit chatting, tons of sms have also been exchange between me & my friends. It was really sort of BORED! @ that moment, really feel abit regret choosing this organization….On appearance, it looks so professional, great & appealing but as u explore inside…it goes ARGH~

@ 1pm-2pm (official lunch break), my Vietnam friend & I went to meet up the rest of my fellow NTU mate & we then went to the T2 staff canteen (Staff Canteen) to makan. Complaints, grudges & regrets were all been poured during our lunch discussion. Of cos’ we do make some fun out of it to create laughters….Afterall, we are just interns, life still has to go on…What done cannot be undone mah….Haha. After lunch, we then took the skytrain back to our office….Faintz, nobody actually opened the door for us and we were stucked outside & cannot go inside the office since both of us do not have the office pass. Cos’ we are just having a short 10-weeks attachment, so many of them actually see no point making a transit pass and office pass for us…this applied to most my other friends too…Damn IRRITATING la…Such a big organization and this is the way they treat their interns…We are also human & we are the future drivers of the economy too le….Nvm…

@ ard 2.45pm, we were asked to attend a briefing on the Liquid Aerosol Gel (LAG) new security measures and the role that we are going to take on to help them up (they are facing a shortage of manpower). Damn sian lo, it really makes no difference between an interns from a poly & a uni or…Or it has always been no differences from the start?! I dunno lo, seriously. What makes me HOT is that, before lunch time, a lady actually told me that she need me to help her with the “Daily Flights Arrival Report” (a data entry task) and the list is quite long lo…and guess wat…there wasn’t any extra PCs in the office, they dun even allocate some PCs to the interns lo. I mean if they tink they will give us something which required us to use a PC to do then jolly well provide us with one….Instead, u guess wat they suggested to us? They recommended us to bring our own lappy to the office….I mean c’mon la, I am just an interns & y do I need to bring such an expensive & heavy stuff to an office which I dun even have an allocated workstation for myself. What happen if it’s lost? Besides that, I dun even have the office access card lo…if I come early in the morning and the door is not open yet, that means I got to carry the lappy with me and walk around 1st b4 arriving @ a later time, hoping that someone can hear our knockings on the glass door?! These are full of SH*T lo! Anyway, the lady who assigned the data entry task to me volunteered to lend out her PC to me since she will be away to help out with the LAG screening process…So, you guess wat time she lend her PCs to me? @ 3.35pm…that’s still Ok…Then in the mid of my working, she suddenly pop up saying that she needed to send an important email….Ok, nvm…I returned her the PC….@ 5pm, she then lended it to me again…C’mon lo, @ 5pm lo & I am still half way through the data entry task…Sian~ bo bian still have to do and completed it by today. That is why I ended up knocking off @ 6.30pm (half an hr unofficial OT). My other partners actually left cos I asked him to do so as he was been tasked to help out the LAG screening process & since he has completed wat he was tasked to do, so no point & unfair to ask him wait for me. Came to think, I might be the few diligent interns lo…having do OT on the 1st day of PA…haha….

Looking @ the actual job scopes/duties allocated to me, personally, I feel that I am quite disappointed with the PA organization which I have chosen. While, maybe all the other organizations are the same as well in the way they handled their interns but I dunno le…CAAS being one of my “Desired Company to work in” really makes me abit upset on the job tasks they allocated to me…While, maybe its too early to make any judgment now since this is just the 1st day….So, hopeful as time passes, I will be more happy in what I am or will be doing. Anyway, if its still not the jobs which I favor then I will promise to try my best to learn as much as possible on whatever SH*T tasks that were arrowed/shoot to me…Haha…Afterall, most internships are about doing shitty jobs….Haha….Hopefully, 明天会更好!

P/S: Haha….1 thing to happy about is that I can wear smart casual to work & since we don’t have the office access card, hence, I am entitled to report work by 9am! Hurray! But, too bad la…me don’t have the staff pass to enjoy the various staff discounts….Hai~
