Me & My Motorola W270

29 08 2008

Today is 29 July 2008 (Tues).
This afternoon, I went to Toa Payoh Central to buy my Motorola W270. Actually a couple of days ago, I have already asked the salesperson @ Planet Telecom (Toa Payoh) to help me reserved a set.

The phone was retailed @ S$118 but was sold to me @ S$98 given that I have the National Day Parade (NDP)’08 Motorola’s voucher.

Actually, this Motorola W270 is a very basic mobile handset. There is no camera, no wifi, no 3G, small LCD screen etc. However, I have chosen this phone because it does not have camera BUT it does come with a Mp3 player, FM radio, speakerphone function and an expandable memory card slot (up to 2GB). Most importantly, it is a sleek flip phone.

In fact, I am using this handset as my secondary phone mainly for my online business (via eBay Singapore). I have already intended to get a new prepaid SIM card (most probably from Starhub) for this phone. It will be easier for me to communicate with my buyers with a separate new mobile no. (to be used only for my online business purposes) ‘cos I always feel insecure for giving out my personal mobile no. to my buyers. Hehe…Scared of misuses e.g. prank calls etc.

Besides, I can also use my W270 for my annual in-camp training since it meets all the MINDEF requirements for mobile phones (to be used in army camps).

Unexpecting an expected mail parcel

26 08 2008

Today is 28 April 2008 (Mon).
This morning I saw a DHL mail parcel lying on my computer table. After flipping over to look @ who was the recipient of the mail parcel, I was surprised to realise that it was actually attention to me! At that moment, I started to wonder who would be the sender of the parcel. Immediately, I began to search the entire DHL package for the sender’s information. Finally, I found out the sender. It was from Nokia, Hong Kong…

2 weeks ago, while I was surfing through Nokia’s website, I chanced upon a battery warning notice titled “Product Advisory: Nokia BL-5C Battery”. Basically, this notice was issued to alert their customers about the hazardous nature of their BL-5C battery (used in specific phone models). After reading the notice, I realised that my old Nokia 3100 was one of the phone models which used the BL-5C battery. According to the notice, I am eligible for a free battery replacement. So of ‘cos I immediately requested for a replacement battery via its website.

Actually, I was expecting them to mail me the replacement battery via normal local postage (Singpost). However, they courier it using DHL. It was sort of unexpected to me. Furthermore, I didn’t know the replacement battery have to fly all the way from Hong Kong to Singapore. But came to think, Nokia is so rich thus the courier fees of DHL are only peanuts to them…Haha. Anyway, cannot imagine that I have risked abt 2 yrs of my life using a phone with a battery that might explode anytime! Heng arh, thanks god…I’m still alive!

Back to Nokia

25 08 2008

Today is 22 March 2008.
This morning after I found out that my desired mobile phone model was having a “2 Day Special” promotion, I immediately rushed down to the M1 Shop @ Jurong IMM to get it. Actually, I have aimed this particular phone model for a long time liao (approx. 6 mths) but I didn’t buy ‘cos the price for it was pretty high back then (hovering ard S$168-S$300). As for this “2 Day Special” promotion, it was selling @ a damn good price of S$118 ONLY! That explained why I got to RUSH down to the M1 Shop…haha.

As seen from the title of this blog i.e. “Back to Nokia”, it should be obvious that my new mobile phone is actually a Nokia one. FYI, the model is Nokia 6500 Slide (Silver). So, what makes me attract to this phone? Basically, there are 4 things which I like about this phone and they are as follows:

  1. It’s silvery metallic design (made from stainless steel)
  2. Comes with a 2.2″ LCD display
  3. Integrated 3.2 megapixels camera with Carl Zeiss optics
  4. It’s NOKIA

Well, it may sound a bit contradicting for me given the fact that I USED TO be an anti-Nokia user BUT the key point here is “USED TO”. After having “break up” with Nokia for a mere of 2.5 yrs, I finally “patched back” with her again…haha. IMHO, I feel that Nokia offers a wide variety of reasonable phones (in term of features/functions) @ reasonable prices. Coversely, Samsung mobile phones usually have very limited features/functions and yet they are beri expensive (overpriced I would say). Actually, while I am doing my shopping for a new mobile phone, I do consider Samsung phone again BUT seems like those Samsung’s bad points which I have mentioned earlier still exist even in most of their latest models. So its not that I gave up on them but rather they gave up on themselves for not improving esp. its ringtone volume & sound quality, features/functions, battery life etc. Besides considering both Nokia and Samsung, I also have considered Sony Ericsson but none of its design caught my attention.

Anyway afterall, I hoped I have indeed make a good choice in purchasing the Nokia 6500 Slide. My ex-mobile phone i.e. Samsung E720C has served me well for the past 2.5 yrs and I truly hoped that my new Nokia 6500 Slide can served me BETTER for the next 2-3 yrs.
