A Chill-out Night @ Boat Quay

29 08 2008

Today is 15 August 2008 (Friday).
This evening, I met up with Yongsen, Eric and Liangji @ The Central, Clarke Quay. Later, we then crossed over to the other side to have our dinner @ The Fishermen’s Wharf.

After finishing our dinner, we then went over to Boat Quay (BQ) for a few glasses of drink. As usual, we walked up and down the whole stretch of KTV pubs deciding which one to enter. Finally, we decided to go into a KTV pub called “The White Bar”. Inside, we ordered a jug of beer and there we go…playing dice games, chatting and looking @ girls. Haha…

After our 1st jug of beer, we then decided to go to another KTV pub for the 2nd jug. Again we strolled up and down the whole stretch of road to choose another KTV pub. Friday night @ BQ was very happening. There were a lot of crowds @ BQ, be it the locals, tourists or expatriates (whom are mostly Westerners). Hence, most pubs were packed with people.

Finally after much walking, we managed to find a KTV pub which hadn’t ‘Full House’ yet. This 2nd KTV pub which we patronized was called Pub 85. Actually this pub is one which has hostresses to serve you. Most of the hostresses were young and trendy. Their main job duty (as far as I know) is to chat and entertain their customers. During our patron there, I was ‘entertained’ by some of them. They are really very good in their PR skills…keep on persuading us to buy more jugs of beer. Heng~ we were able to withstand all their sweet talks and escaped from their skillful buy over.

It was 1.30am when we left the pub. We then walked over to the bus stop @ Esplanade to take the Night Rider home. Now then I know, the Night Rider to my home is NR1 (by SMRT bus service) and N1 (by SBS Transit). Pai say hor, I long time never go chiong liao…Haha.

A day filled with foods, KTV & games

26 08 2008

Today is 26 April 2008 (Sat).
This afternoon, I met up with Jamie, Lian & Tuan for a KTV session @ Partyworld Oriental (Chinatown). As usual, we spent 4 hours of non-stop singing in the KTV lounge. After our KTV session ended @ 6.05pm, we walked over to the Clarke Quay area to have our dinner.

Today our dinner was @ the Fishermen’s Wharf (recommended by Tuan, our ‘Yummy Queen’) located at New Bridge Road (directly infront of Central Mall). All of us ordered their signature dish i.e. Fish & Chips (S$6.50++) for our main course. In addition, we also ordered a plate of Calamari (S$10.50++) for sharing. We spent about an hour eating & chatting over our dinner.

As planned, after our dinner we then went to Mindcafe to have a few rounds of fun games. Over there, we took up their ‘Fantastic Four’ package which was @ S$40++. This package entitled us a 2 hours of game-playing coupled with 4 free drinks and 3 free side dishes (comprise of 2 orders of finger foods & 1 munchy). Apart from that, we also decided to extend 1 more hour @ S$2.50++/pax, hence making it to a 3 hours of game-playing. At Mindcafe, we played quite a number of fun & exciting games (don’t really remembered their names/titles…haha). Anyway, it was indeed very entertaining.

Came to think, it has been a super long long time since I last played a board game with my friends. If I’m not wrong, the last time I have a game with my friends was during my army days (approx. 4-5 yrs ago)…IMHO, sometimes its good to play some board/card games with friends & family. It serves as a time for us to enhance/strengthen the bondings between one another.

After 3 hours of non-stop game-playing, we then decided to leave the cafe @ 11pm and go home after that.

Moi 1st time @ KTV Pub

26 08 2008

Today is 06 April 2008.
This evening, I went to meet my friends, Eric & Yongsen @ The Central shopping mall located @ Clarke Quay. Actually, this meet-up was to celebrate Eric’s birthday. This year, Yongsen & I shared to buy a T-shirt (Punkstar @ AMK Hub) for him.

After doing some shopping and dinnering @ The Central, we then crossed over to Boat Quay to go for chill out. In fact, the whole stretch of road along the Boat Quay housed many pubs which are cater for chillers to chill out. Pubs ranging from KTV to Live Band are widely available. Some of these pubs even planted “hot but decent” girls outside their pubfronts to solicit for businesses (most of them are rather agressive I would say).

After spending some time walking up and down the stretch of road (to select a good KTV Pub), we finally decided to enter a pub called “The Access Room”. Inside this pub, there are ‘free-flow’ dedications of KTV (Hall style, need to take turns among tables —> 2 songs/table), dice games, playing cards and 撞球 (pool @ S$2/game). I guess these kinda of games/activities are rather common features in most of the pubs.

For the 3 of us, we ordered a jug of Tiger beer (S$25/Jug) and we engaged in games/activities such as playing dices, cards and of ‘cos singing KTV la. It was about 11.20pm that we decided to call for the bill (need to catch our last train home). Overall, it was a fun and relaxing night for me…It has been such a long time since I last went for a chill out liao.

Exploring the NEW shopping malls in Singapore

25 08 2008

For the past few weeks, I have been spending my weekends exploring some of the new shopping malls in Singapore. Besides the latest emergence of the heartland mall, AMK hub @ Ang Mo Kio Central, some of the other new kids on the block include The Central @ Clarke Quay and Square 2 @ Novena.

To me, AMK hub’s arrival has indeed injected lot of excitements, entertainments, vibrancy, colors etc into a town which once used to be boring. The new heartland mall, I would say is more appealing to the whole family & people of all ages. Regardless of whether u r teens, young adults, middle-aged or elderly, there are always something for u to shop or dine in the mall. Some highlights of AMK hub include New York New York Restaurant (1st outlet in a heartland mall), Cathay Cinema, NTUC Xtra (Hypermart) etc.

As for The Central shopping mall, I feel that the floor planning (design) is abit messy & unorganized. There are a lot of turns and corners thereby making shopping difficult. The corridors & passageways between shops esp. shops on the higher levels are very narrow too. It somehow makes me feel that they want to imitate those trendy shops style in Korea & Hong Kong as well as those in our Bugis Street. Basically, I also feel that, there weren’t much interesting shops in this shopping mall. This might be due to the fact that, the shopping mall has not opened fully. It was about 60% opened during the time I went. Also, besides those fast food restaurants, most of the restaurants are quite high class…even their Sakae Sushi is different from the normal one. Over there, Sake used a separate name to position themselves for being a fine dining restaurant (prices are more expensive). The Central, I would say is much more for the teens, clubbers (since is near to Clarke Quay) & young-middle aged working adults. Some highlights of The Central include the outside riverfront scenery, the store @ B1 which sell 100% “Made in Japan” products.

Last but not least, my opinion toward Square 2 is that it is a small shopping mall which caters more to the bargain-lovers or rather budget buyers. Of ‘cos, I am not referring it to be a place where people bargain here & there…but I am trying to say that stuffs selling there are mostly of reasonable or budgeted prices. Most of the stores sell quite trendy apparels & accessories (abit like those in our Far East or Bugis Street). They are mostly imported from Hong Kong, Bangkok etc. During my shopping @ Square 2, I bought a men’s trendy watch imported from HK for just S$10.40. The design is kinda of unique…not those we normally see @ the pasar malam. The Square 2 is actually an extension out from its sister mall, Novena Square. That is why it is called Square 2, I think…Haha…Anyway, I feel that in Square 2, they focused much more on fashion rather than dining…hence, I got abit problems when trying to find something to eat in Square 2. Came to think, the areas in Novena Square are soon becoming more commercialize as more & more shopping malls started to open up and the current one starts to revitalize themselves. In the small Novena area alone, it already got 4 shopping malls namely, Velocity, Novena Square, Square 2 & the United Square. Wondering is it the spill-over effect from the congestion of shopping malls in Orchard Road…since Novena is of close proximity to Orchard. The highlight of Square 2, I would say is the Korean Concept Store & Restaurant only.
